How to Record and
Transcribe Audio
Step-by-step guide to recording audio and getting a transcript in Talk2Memo.
Help Center › Getting Started
Step 1 — Open the New Recording screen
Tap the + New Recording button on the Recordings screen. You'll be taken to the recording interface.
Step 2 — Start recording
Tap the large microphone button to begin. The button will turn red and a timer will start. You'll also see a live waveform confirming your microphone is active.
Live Transcript: If you have a stable internet connection, words will appear on screen within about 300ms of being spoken. This is the live transcription feature — it does not replace the final transcript.
Step 3 — Stop and upload
Tap the stop button when you're done. The app will immediately begin uploading your audio to the server. You'll see the recording appear in your list with a Processing status.
Step 4 — Wait for transcription
Transcription typically takes about 20–60% of the recording's length. A 10-minute recording is usually ready in 2–6 minutes. You don't need to stay on the page — the list updates automatically.
Step 5 — View your transcript
Once the status changes to Summarised, tap the recording to open it. You'll see the full transcript with speaker labels, an AI summary, and key action items.
